what kind of pain treatment can i expect?
I am 19 years old. Ive been roughed up doing martial arts for many years of my life. And i have have been jumped by gang kids and beat with things. I have also been in a car wreck.
My mother has rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.
my back consistently hurts, my shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, hands, wrists and neck hurt most of the time.
I cant work out as often, i can go running, i cant sit for long periods of time.. and i take Ambien to sleep and i still cant sleep well. anf for some reason my muscles have a dull achy pain most of the time.
If i go see a doctor or a pain specialist, what do you think they will do to try to help?

Your experience so far sounds similar to mine, though it doesn’t sound like you have been diagnosed with FM yet and I would urge you not to self-diagnose. Though it is possible that you have FM there are a number of conditions that are frequently confused with FM. Though I’ll be honest with you to me it does sounds like FM.
My pain treatment was as follows:
At the beginning when the pain was completely debilitating I was prescribed narcotics to get through daily life. Narcotics are not considered a long term treatment however. I had to take them for almost 8 months and that whole period of time is a blurr.
After my diagnosis was complete I was prescribed amitryptaline which is an anti-depressant prescribed almost exclusively for pain and sleep control now. It has worked wonders on both my sleep and pain even on the low dose of 12 mg/day. Some people are taking 100, 200 even 300mgs a day.
If you are diagnosed with FM know that the condition is completely benign, it has been cured (though in a very small percentage of sufferers) and with proper life style choices and potentially medication (depending on your personal preference) like can return to something like normal.
