Steven Our Answer About Shoulder Injuries In Dogs

Steven asks…

How can you tell if your dog has a shoulder dislocation?

Our dog has noticeably started limping the last few days on her left front leg. We can’t tell is it is the result of chronic wear and tear, or if it is an acute injury, like a dislocation. Is there a reliable way to diagnose a dislocated shoulder in a dog without going to the vet? Would a dog be able to walk with a dislocation, albeit with a noticeable limp?

Team Leader answers:

Think of when a person dislocates something.

I’ve dislocated my big toe and both shoulders. You can use them but there’s pain. Lots of it! You can’t use them as much but they still move and function.

There will be swelling and limping. Try touching or moving it and see if your dog is in pain.

Check under her paws maybe there’s something under it??
